Introduction:
The course is designed to provide:
- An outline of the legislation relating to work at heights.
- A guide to the options on how to comply.
- A background in how equipment can be utilized to achieve this.
- The details behind the equipment standards, ensuring the equipment is used properly.
- The criteria for issue, ID marking, inspection, record keeping, maintenance, storage and withdrawal from service.

Course Syllabus:
- Legislation and standards
     OSHA and ANSI
- Hazard analysis and risk assessment
- Categories for working at heights
     Work Restraint      Work Positioning      Fall Arrest
- Inspection and record keeping
- Limitation of equipment
- Suspension trauma and the importance of rescue

Course Wrap-up:
- Students to carry out a multiple choice test of key points
- Clarify points of concern
- Summarize the topics covered during the course.

Assessment of Students:
All students will carry out a multiple choice test covering the key points of the course. If a candidate gets a total score of less than 80% then the trainer will explore the student’s knowledge of the topic. A re-test will then be given to determine if the student has attained the minimum goal for passing the course.

Records to be maintained by Safety Systems:
Certificates for all students, valid for three years. Photo ID card to be issued after successful completion of each module.

All Safety Systems training courses meet the ANSI standard for safety training published by the American Society of Safety Engineers; ANSI/ASSE A490.0-2001.

4 hours

Ratio of Trainees to Trainers:
Normally 15 : 1

Type of Workers to Attend:
- Workers who work at height on a semi-regular basis
- Managers/Foremen of workers at height.
- Safety managers.
- Facility engineers who hire contractors who work at heights.
